Description
This 1986.5 Porsche 928S is a largely original example with 32k miles, sunroof, leather interior, and a factory limited slip differential. The seller purchased the car out of a Georgia barn where it sat with its engine removed from 1996 to 2011. Since taking ownership, the seller has performed significant work restoring the mechanicals and putting it back on the road. He has resealed the engine, replaced the timing belt, and installed new rod bearings, valve seals, and new head gaskets. The fuel-system and coolant-system have been overhauled, and the drivetrain and suspension assemblies have been disassembled, cleaned, and refurbished. The car is sold with a clean Carfax and clean title.Single stage paint is thought to be original and appears good for its age, though the seller notes that there is room for additional finish correction. Minor imperfections can be seen, including a handful of nicks, stone chips, and a small area of chip repair at the front of the hood. The seller has replaced much of the exterior rubber and the black chin spoiler is new. Both trademark flush-retracting â??bulletâ? headlights are operational, and pre-facelift split taillights appear undamaged. The has no prior accident history and comes with a clean Carfax. The window sticker above shows a $52,833 MSRP when new. Chrome wheels were fitted in place of the originally-specâ??d platinum anodized rims. The wheel centers were taken out, re-chromed, and the Porsche inlay crest was reinstalled. Older Dunlops are shown in the photos but the seller will replace them before the new owner takes possession. The interior is in good condition with unrestored seat leather showing well. A dent and pair of scuffs in the rear console, as well as some small holes in the side of the front unit can be seen in the gallery. The dash appears free of cracks and a houses the factory Blaupunkt stereo. The car was optioned with an amplifier and upgraded sound system as well as a power sunroof. The hatch seal was replaced and original door seals remain in good shape, though the hatch panel and rear passenger sun visors are lifting at the rear window. The seller fixed a faulty relay that was causing the ABS light to come on, and the dash is free of warning lights. Note the handbrake location. Air conditioning has been overhauled with a remanufactured compressor, new hoses, OEM hard lines, and fresh O-rings throughout, but the system currently refuses to hold a vacuum for more than a day and is not filled with refrigerant. The seller is having the issue inspected.Midyear cars received Porscheâ??s new 5.0-liter 32-valve V8, good for 288 horsepower in the North American market. The engine was preemptively disassembled, resealed, and powder-coated where appropriate. The rod bearings and valve seals were replaced while apart and much of the hardware was re-plated in zinc chromate. The engine received new head gaskets and the front and rear main seals were replaced. The cams, cam covers, oil pan and pump were resealed as well. New OEM oil coolant lines were fitted. The timing belt was replaced and its tensioner was rebuilt. The induction side got a rebuilt MAF, new throttle position sensor, fresh intake manifold gaskets, new connector rubber and vacuum lines. The fuel pump, pressure regulator, lines, injectors and seals were all replaced.Dual ignition caps and rotors, plugs, wires and plug hole seals are all new. Both the alternator and starter have been rebuilt. The original radiator was rodded and resealed, the viscous fan clutch was refilled. The cooling system received new temperature sensors, pipes, thermostat, and seals. The stainless exhaust was refinished and new heat shields were installed, along with new motor mounts and exhaust hangers. The five-speed manual transaxle with optional 40% locking LSD, received new fluid and crush rings, while half-shafts were re-greased with new boots and bolts. The flywheel was resurfaced and the clutch is original, but was reassembled with a new throwout bearing and slave cylinder.Midyear â??86 cars got revised suspension and bigger S4 brakes, which have received a fluid flush, braided steel lines, new pads and re-plated parking brake hardware. The power steering system got a rebuilt rack and pump along with new boots, and all four wheels have fresh bearings. The sale includes a small collection of spares, original accessories, and factory tool and spare wire kits. The car is sold with a clear California title. The Carfax shows the car had 30,904 miles in January 1995 before being parked for 15 years.Filed under: 928, 928 s
