Description
This 1986 BMW Alpina C2 2.7 is number 28 of 108 examples produced according to the seller, who imported the car from Japan in 2016. This is a factory left-hand-drive car that shows 96,816 kilometers (~60,150 miles) and is powered by an Alpina-specific 2.7 liter inline-six mated to a Getrag 5-speed manual transmission which was swapped in to replace the factory automatic.  The car is unmodified apart from an aftermarket stereo head-unit, though the OEM item is included with the sale. In September 2016, the seller took this Alpina to Motor Works West in Wyckoff, New Jersey where it received a comprehensive service including a new timing belt, water pump, head bolts, spark plugs, an oil change, and more.  The Alpina rear spoiler and deep front air dam have both been preserved and look to be in nice shape in these pictures. The dual-tip Alpina exhaust system is said to have a deep growl under power. The Alpina alloy wheels look to be in nice condition and are free of major marks, curb rash, or damage. The signature Alpina cloth on the bolstered front seats shows minimal wear, though the driverâ??s knee bolster (the hard underdash panel beneath the steering wheel) has cracked and does not stay in place. Being made of 30 year old pressboard, the piece is in need of replacement. A small burn on the center console near the ashtray is also noted. The seller states that he cannot detect the smell of smoke, likely due to the fact that the carpets were replaced at some point in the past. The interior has been left stock with the exception of an aftermarket stereo head unit as shown above, and the original will also be included with the sale. The dashboard, door panels, carpeting, headliner, and switchgear are all said to be clean and the factory wood shift knob is present.A factory plaque is located just forward of the ashtray and designates this C2 as number 28 of 108 examples produced. The factory leather-wrapped steering wheel looks to be nicely preserved here. All instrumentation, electrics, and features are said to be fully operational. The shift linkage is described as a bit sloppy and an overhaul kit with a Z3 short shifter will be included with the sale. The 96,816 indicated kilometers are believed correct based on import paperwork and the general condition of the vehicle. The Alpina-specific 2.7 liter inline-six is mated to a Getrag 5-speed manual transmission. According to records sourced via the Alpina registry, this car was built as an automatic and a transmission swap was performed at some point in Japan. Work included a new timing belt and tensioner, water pump, head bolts, valve cover gasket, spark plugs, an oil change, coolant flush, new hood strut, and a general inspection.
