Description
This 1974 BMW 2002tii is a thoughtfully restored square taillight model that features Euro chrome bumpers, flush side-markers, excellent paint, a 5-speed transmission, and other high quality cosmetic touches inside and out. The restoration process began in â??03 and resulted in an East/West coast collaboration by Sports Car Restoration in CT, and Casey Motorsports in California, and service records and receipts from the restoration date back to 2003 and total $60k.  Paintwork was performed in 2003 by Matt McGinn from SCR. BASF/RM paint products were used exclusively, and particular attention was paid to appropriate panel fitment. At that time, US spec side-markers were deleted and flush-mounted Italian-market turn signals were added. Hardy & Beck vintage 3-piece wheels with new tires were added in 2012.Early 2002 model bumpers were sourced from Aardvarc Racing and installed by Casey Motorsports in 2011. Paint used during the bumper conversion was color-matched by SCR back east, and professionally applied in California. The license plate lights were removed and Euro spec license plate lights mounted on the bumper were added. The body is said to have no significant corrosion issues.Additional exterior work completed in 2003 by SCR includes refinished front grilles, Hella H4 headlights, and grill mounted Bosch foglights. All outer moldings including the upper, lower and drip rail, B pillar, and quarter glass moldings were replaced. The door seals were replaced with OEM units, and new window seals were added all around along with lock-strips and clips. The car is reported to handle well thanks to suspension upgrades including a new Suspension Techniques 22mm front sway bar, 19mm adjustable rear sway bar, end links in front, rod end style end links in rear, Suspension Techniques springs, Bilstein HD shocks, and new ball joints, all installed in 2010. Factory rubber suspension bushings were replaced in 2012.Interior restoration took place at Casey Motorsports from 2010 to 2013. The multi-piece GAHH carpet looks great with Coco mats front and rear, and period Recaro seats with new seat belts have been re-upholstered in leather with vintage Porsche corduroy inserts. New BMW door panels were added, and a new rear parcel shelf was custom fabricated. The Nardi steering wheel is in great condition, and a correct shift boot and knob have been installed. A reserve fuel light was also added to the car. SCR rebuilt the original Tii clock which is said to operate correctly, and the three-gauge custom auxiliary panel mounted in the center console includes oil pressure, oil temp, and volt meter. The speedometer was rebuilt by North Hollywood Speedometer, and the gauge cluster has all new bulbs. An â??80s MacIntosh MX406 head unit powers two JL Audio speakers that have been mounted inside custom enclosures in the front lower kick panels. Four 6Ã?9 inch speakers are hidden in the rear parcel shelf. The dashtop is said to be free of cracks, and the original one piece dash panel has a small nick near the instrument cluster. The original M10 engine features Kugelfischer fuel-injection and was advertised at producing 130hp when new. A new 320i radiator, heater hoses, and an alternator were installed in 2003, and the original air intake was restored and crinkle-coated along with the valve cover.A Pertronix Ignitor electronic ignition and front strut bar by Top End Performance were added in 2008. The engine was last serviced in April with a full tune-up, including new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor.Between 2010 to 2012 the undercarriage was repainted, the sub-frames powder-coated, and the suspension work mentioned above was installed. Factory rubber was used in place of urethane. The battery was relocated to trunk using a Top End Performance rear brace/battery tray. Trunk trim panels were recovered with OEM â??elephant skinâ? vinyl. The original Michelin spare tire has never been on the car and still has mold web and original sticker remnants. The spare wheel has been refinished in correct satin silver. The fuel tank was acid etched, flushed painted, and sealed.Since 2010, the car has been thoroughly looked after and reconditioned by Casey Motorsports with receipts totaling more than $25k.
