Description
This is a 1983 Pontiac Trans Am Knight Rider KITT convertible replica. I have owned it for the last 17 years. It has the original 305 V8 Crossfire Fuel Injection engine which works and runs great. I have not done any engine modifications. It is one of the rare Auto Form retractable hardtop convertible conversions, which you had to purchase through a dealer back then. They would then send the car out to the company to have the conversion completed. I have an original Auto Form color brochure that illustrates everything, original 1983 owner's manual and maintenance form, 1983 Pontiac dealer brochure, and complete '83 Firebird Service manual. This car has always been garage kept and not driven in the winter. It has the iconic red scanner on the front end, functioning interior KITT voice display with phrases, speedometer, RPM's, fuel, 9" LCD Screen, functional lighted horn button, switchable cruise mode buttons (normal, auto, and pursuit), lighted gas pedal, and correct round shifter knob (machined out of aluminum). It has power steering, windows, locks, driver's seat, 4 wheel disc brakes, correct 15" turbo cast wheels and hubcaps, and brand new tires with about 400 miles on them. It also has factory power mirrors and the switch remains in its original location underneath the lower console. It may need to be re-wired/re-connected. Car has cruise control option but I've never used it. Both sets of 5-point seatbelts can be tucked away for display purposes. It also has show accurate fog lights and a brake line lock device installed just like the TV show's stunt crew did on their vehicles. This was done by a friend who owns an original car from the series but I have not tested it out yet. Turn signals/hazard lights were re-located to small bulbs in the fog light opening to keep it street legal. It also has an adjustable tow bar on the front to replicate the TV car as well as custom floor mats. Car has original exhaust pipes, and bowling ball hubcaps have been secured to the rims with zipties. Haven't lost one since I mounted them 11 years ago. The scanner has the function for the audio sound but I never hooked it up to a speaker. It also has several different selectable flash patterns. The roof is a manual retractable hardtop. The back section is open at the moment. It originally was lined with a tan fabric top over the fiberglass roof. That was dried and cracked with a cloudy plastic window. I didn't like the way it looked with the button snaps all over the hatch cover so I had it removed, finished, and painted over to look more like the show car. I was going to fabricate a small custom window piece for the back but just never had time to do it. I rarely drive it with the top up anyway. Both hood and trunk shocks are strong and stay up on their own. A/C was repaired several years ago and works/blows cold. I bought the car in 2001 with just under 63,000 miles on it. The odometer does not reflect that because when I had the dash installed the guy who did the work never re-connected it. I think it shows around 66,000. I've driven about 6000 miles since then so it has about 72,000 miles now. The car was in stock condition when I bought it. All Knight Rider modifications were done during my ownership of the car. Clean history, no accidents. I believe I'm the 3rd owner of the car. It was originally a black/gold with tan interior. Selling because I want to make space for some other projects. Also comes with replica KNIGHT license plate and a custom die-cast 1/64 KITT convertible. This car is a real head turner and I constantly get compliments whenever I drive it. It has been featured in local shows, newspapers, and magazines. This car is not a trailer queen and has imperfections because I have actually driven and enjoyed it. Various dings and chips in the paint but it still looks great. New calipers and hoses, transmission pan/gasket/filter replaced, valve cover gaskets, differential cover gasket, speed gear "O" ring replaced August 2018. Oil changes done annually. Runs great without leaks. Stock interior light needs to be re-wired and re-secured. It goes in between the driver and passenger seats where the round hole is.
