1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL

Power is from a numbers-matching 2. 8-liter M130 inline-six that was rebuilt in summer 2020 and is paired with a floor-shifted automatic transmission. Additional work in the last 10 years included a second repaint, replating the chrome brightwork, further reupholstery, refinishing the wood trim, and replacement of the exhaust system. The bumpers and other chrome trim were replated between 2018 and 2019, and a new windshield was installed. Steel wheels wear chrome single-piece covers with black centers and Hankook Optimo H724 whitewall tires that were mounted in 2014. The black convertible top was fitted in the late 1990s and reinforced with additional canvas along the bottom edges in 2015. The black “Pagoda” hardtop was repainted in 1997, and a dent was removed from it in 2014. Delamination in its rear window is shown in the gallery. The seats were reupholstered in factory-style black leather in the late 1990s. The wood trim was refinished in 2014, at which time the hardtop’s headliner was restored.
