Description
This 1987 BMW M6 has 51,079 miles and is finished in Schwarz Black over Lotus White. This example was sold new in California and is one of just 24 examples converted by Dinan with a Stage 2 turbocharger, Stage 3 suspension system, reprogrammed ECU, and high-performance clutch. The car received a repaint in 2006, and extensive documentation from new includes complete maintenance records up to the most recent service performed earlier this year. It is now offered in well-kept condition with a large service file, all original purchase documentation, two sets of wheels, two keys, extra parts as detailed below, a new car cover. This M6 was converted by Dinan in 1989 at 14,672 miles. The additions consisted of the Stage 2 turbocharger system, Stage 3 suspension in place if the OEM hydraulic self-leveling system, and a reprogrammed ECU. Three months later, the car was taken back to Dinan for their Turbo Brake Kit. The Dinan upgrades cost approximately $24k over the original sales price of $58,719.70 that is listed on the original sales receipt pictured in the gallery. In 2006 at 48k miles, the car received a cosmetic refurbishment that included a glass-out repaint in the factory Schwarz Black with hand-painted M pin-striping and new weatherstripping throughout. The seller reports all panels are straight with no corrosion or dings, and only a few minor body scratches are visible along with some chipping on the nose. This M6 shows no evidence or history of accidents and looks sharp in pictures. The car currently rides on 17Ã?8.5â? Dinan/Fikse lightweight aluminum wheels wrapped in Falken tires with good tread remaining. All four BBS RS wheels remain in good condition as pictured in the gallery and are included with the sale. The car is garaged and a new Rain-X car cover is also included.Additional work in 2006 focused on the interior, where the 1987-specific leather dashboard was replaced. The owner at that time also planned to re-cover the factory Lotus White seats, but never had the job completed. A new set of OEM leather covers for the front seats are included in the sale along with used rear seat covers and a replacement front center console. The interior shows well overall with a clean headliner and door panels. The BMW accessory wood shift knob also looks nice, and typical wear is most visible on the driverâ??s seat. The center console appears to have four small holes drilled into it, likely from a cellular phone mounting. The rear seats are said to be in good shape, and the carpets are covered by Dinan floor mats. A set of OEM BMW mats also come with the car.All instrumentation, lighting, accessories, and the electric sunroof are reported to be fully functional. The power head rests are inoperable, though the motor can be heard when pressing the buttons. The A/C was recently serviced and is said to blow cold front and rear. An aftermarket stereo system with a 10-disc CD changer and amplifier was installed in the 1990s.The odometer failed in 2014 when the car had 49,982 miles and the owner at that time replaced the entire instrument cluster with a used unit showing 27,500 miles. The cluster currently shows 28,597 miles and repair receipts show total vehicle mileage to be at 51,079.The turbocharged and intercooled 3.5L S38 inline-six is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and developed 460 horsepower when new according to Dinan. Automotive magazines of the time reported a 0-60 mph sprint of 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 172 mph. According to the seller, all mechanical systems have been recently checked and given a seal of approval by Bradâ??s Motor Werkeâ??s and Schneider Autohaus in Southern California. No leaks of any kind were reported and the seller also had all fluids flushed. The car is said to run and drive well with responsive brakes and steering. A mechanic at Schneider Autohaus indicated some wear on the transmission synchros and recommended replacement in the future. A Racing Dynamics front strut bar has been added. In addition to recent servicing, the current owner spent several thousand dollars to bring the car into compliance with California emissions regulations including the installation of a new catalytic converter. This M6 will reportedly now pass Smog tests without issue.Several undercarriage photos are included in the gallery below and show the vehicle to be free of any major rust or corrosion. Recent mechanical inspections reported that no measurable leaks could be found. This Dinan M6 is sold with an extensive amount of paperwork and service records including the original purchase materials, window sticker, brochures, literature, original photos of the car, all Dinan conversion receipts, factory and Dinan ownerâ??s manuals, a dealer and Dinan stamped service booklet, various magazines, and more.
