Description
This 1957 Ford Thunderbird was purchased new from Gaither Motor Company of Rockdale, Texas, by a former member of the Womenâ??s Airforce Service Pilots group in the second world war, and it remained in her possession until her passing in 2001. Power is provided by an E-code 312ci V8 topped with dual four-barrel carburetors and linked to a three-speed automatic transmission. The car is equipped with a dealer-installed air conditioning system as well as a removable hardtop, a power-adjustable seat, power windows, power steering, and an AM radio. Originally finished in Colonial White, the body was removed from the frame, repaired and straightened, and refinished in 2003. Features include a body-color removable hardtop with porthole windows as well as fender vents, slanted tail fins, and dual exhaust outlets exiting through the corners of the chrome rear bumper. The 14â?³ steel wheels wear turbine-style covers and are mounted with Dayton Thorobred whitewall tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by drums at all four corners. The power-adjustable bench seat is upholstered in black and white vinyl and is accompanied by a color-coordinated dashboard and door panels. The interior was refurbished during the early-2000s work, and equipment includes a heater, an AM radio, an analog clock, a floor-mounted shifter, power windows, and a locking glovebox. An under-dash air conditioner was installed at the dealership in 1957.
