Description

Two parts cars, many new and refurbished original parts, extensive fabrication work, and over 850 hours of labor went into the project. Powered by a 2. The car was repainted in Inka Orange, and a custom interior has been installed. The build was engineered and executed by Mario Langsten of Vintage Sports & Restoration in Bow, New Hampshire, and complete records from the project are included. The car has been featured in several publications and won numerous awards. Two 2002tii parts cars were then acquired and used for sourcing unavailable parts, and any additional parts needed were bought new from BMW. The shell was stripped to bare-metal, re-welded as needed, and seam-sealed before two coats of epoxy primer were applied, followed by three coats of Inka Orange, and three coats of clear. A high performance suspension has been installed that utilizes stock 2002tii strut housings with Bilstein Sport inserts, Ireland Engineering sport springs, Ireland Engineering adjustable camber plates, and E21 323i trailing arms modified to work with stock 2002 spring locations. Steering is a rack and pinion unit from an E21 323i with a column from a 3. 0CS. A set of 15Ã?8â?³ Revolution modular 4-spoke wheels were added and wear 205/50-15 Bridgestone Potenza RE050 tires. New ceramic and metal roundels with distinctive M Sport colors now replace the Revolution center cap decals. The braking system has been upgraded with a 3. 0CS master cylinder and calipers, a re-positioned 2002tii brake booster, and E21 323i rotors front and rear. An LED third brake light and LED taillights were also installed. Inside the cabin, a custom interior features 320i Recaro front seats, 635CSi rear seats with center section, and door panels all upholstered in black leather with M-cloth inserts. A leather-wrapped two-piece 2002 dash has been enhanced with orange stitching and painted instrument panels, and the car has been fitted with a MOMO Retro steering wheel, M Sport shift knob with Alcantara boot, M2 floor mats, and orange seat belts. In-car entertainment is provided by an Alpine CDA-9886 head unit with Hertz HSK-TL 130 5¼â? and 1â? front separates, Morel Elate SW-9 subs, and a JL300-4 power amplifier. 5-liter AC Schnitzer S3 Sport S14 engine with close-ratio Getrag 265 transmission and limited-slip differential from Turner Motorsport in June 2002 as a back-up motor to the four E30 M3s that were in his family. He decided to use that drivetrain for this build upon Marioâ??s suggestion, and work began at Vintage Sports & Restoration. The engine features 48mm throttle bodies, lightweight EVO flywheel, large volume carbon fiber air intake plenum, and an Alpha-N fuel management system. The gearbox utilizes a stock E30 M3 S14 bell housing and custom UUC Motorworks gearshift kit with DSSR. Cooling comes from an over-sized aluminum radiator, and the coolant over-flow tank was eliminated. The engine was thoroughly refreshed by VS&R with the head being reworked, new pistons installed, and the unit was re-sealed. The Getrag 265 CR transmission was also fully re-built prior to installation. The exhaust system consists of two-piece Group A rally header, VSR dual cat front section, custom stainless steel twin rear mufflers with custom stainless twin pipes, and twin Vibrant polished exhaust tips. A substantial amount of fabrication was required to fit the engine, transmission, and differential, as well as the custom drive shaft, half shafts, cooling system, and exhaust system. The fabrication work included the following:Transmission tunnel enlarged for Getrag 265 gearboxModified and reinforced chassis for e30 M3 transmission cross member with factory railsModified sub-frame from a 2002tii frame with an E30 center section to mount the E30 M3 differentialAdapted custom S14 hydraulic motor mounts to the altered 2002tii sub-frame to reduce vibrationModified rear valance and bumper for center dual exhaustModified chassis for header and radiator fitmentBattery relocated to trunk with rear shock tower brace and battery boxA collection of receipts and invoices for all the work performed on the five-year build comes with the car. It has been shown, but not judged due to its custom nature, at the Greenwich Concours and the Misslewood Concours. The car was on display in 2014 for six months at the Saratoga Auto Museum in Saratoga Springs, New York as a part of the â??Re-Made in America Exhibitâ? along with a Boyd Coddington car and 11 others. Several publications have featured the car, including Roundel (July 2009), Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car (January 2010), and Bimmer (April 2011) among others. It also made the cover shot of Hemming Sports & Exotic Car (January 2010) and Boston Bimmer (Holiday 2008 issue). Filed under: 02 tii, 2002, 2002 tii, bmw 2002, bmw 2002 tii, bmw tii, roundie, tii
