Description

This 1988 BMW M3 was purchased new in Bend, Oregon before spending the remainder of its life in the Southwest and California. Powered by a 2. 3-liter S14 inline-four by 5-speed manual transmission, the car has been mildly modified with larger BBS wheels, Eibach springs, and a Borla exhaust. It is sold with two sets of wheels, partial service records, receipts for the recent work, a clean Carfax report, and a clear California title. The body benefits from ding removal followed by a windows-out exterior repaint in its original code 138 Zinnoberrot. Body panels are reportedly original throughout, with matching VIN tags and consistent gaps. Some rust is photographed in a chip at the driverâ??s door drain. New front and rear windshields were fitted along with weather seals, including a single-piece front bumper gasket. Lighting includes ellipsoid low beams under Euro grilles, while Evo brake ducts have replaced the original fog lights, which are also included in the sale. Larger than stock 16â?³ BBS basketweaves wear fresh Dunlop Direzza rubber at all four corners. Factory-sized 15â?³ wheels are also included. Inside, the front sport seats were reupholstered in code 0203 black bison leather, while the sculpted M3-specific rear bench wears a smoother grain showing light cracks. The headliner is described as tight and the carpet as free of major blemishes under a set of new floor mats. A fresh factory dash rests behind the three-spoke non-airbag wheel, housing Motorsport instrumentation including a 160 mph speedometer and oil pressure gauge. A functioning factory cassette stereo and 13-button onboard computer are present in the center stack. Carpeting is peeled back for several photos of the bare trunk floor and tire well. Power is from a 2. Work performed in 2014 and 2015 included a new water pump, radiator, timing chain tensioner, A/C compressor bushings, belts, oil pan gasket, and other seals. BMW-specified fluids were also replaced including coolant and oil for the engine, differential, and transmission. New brake rotors, pads and emergency brake shoes were also installed. A recent service in January 2017 included a fluid top-off and compression test that reportedly yielded numbers of 175, 180, 185, and 190 psi. Shifting is via Getrag 5-speed manual gearbox that received a new selector seal during the 2015 service. Modifications include a Borla cat-back exhaust along with new Eibach Euro-height sport springs and Bilstein shocks. Engine compartment paint is original and a small amount of clear coat peeling is visible just forward of the driver-side cowl underhood. The clean Carfax report shows no accidents, thefts, or other issues back to 1999. A number of photos show the car in the midst of pre-paint sanding and dent removal, and the recent mechanical work was reportedly performed by a BMWCCA member using OEM parts. Documentation includes an original dealer service book with stamps from 1988 to 1991. Also included is a collection of books and manuals. Filed under: 3 series, 3-series, e30, e30 m3, s14
