1973 Citroen SM

This 1973 Citroen SM was has just under 100k miles from new, with a well documented history dating back to 1974. The car was owned by a single long-term owner from 1974 to 2007 whose wife referred to the car as â??The Mistressâ?. I kept the car meticulously maintained and made a number of upgrades, including a conversion to European CIBIE swiveling headlights in the late â??70s and a 5-speed manual transmission swap in the early â??80s. Both upgrades were performed using all factory parts by Parthenon Motors, the primary Citroen dealer in Vancouver, BC at the time. The exterior was repainted in its original Beige Tholonet in the 1990s. The paint remains in good condition and the body is very straight, with no notable door dings or other damage. The car has never been in an accident and retains all its factory sheet metal. The original wheels are installed with correct Michelin XWX tires in good condition.The European CIBIE swiveling headlight system is in good condition and works as designed. These European headlights provide far better lighting than the original US DOT mandated headlights, and the conversion cost $2,478 in the late 1970s. Performing a similar conversion on a US spec car today would cost far more than that amount, assuming all the necessary parts could even be located.The interior is in good unrestored condition with no notable issues other than a minor crack in the dash, which can be seen in the gallery below. The seats are finished in Tabac leather and are in good condition with no tears or other damage.A period-correct Blaupunkt radio is installed in the center console and is in good working condition. All lights, gauges, and accessories work as designed including the air conditioning.The car has been extensively maintained mechanically over the years and is currently in good shape with no known drivability issues. The only noteworthy modification is a set of European headers installed in place of the original US spec exhaust manifold. The engine was fully rebuilt in the late 1980s at 83k miles with all new components including the timing chains, and the transmission was rebuilt at 87k miles. The timing chains were recently checked and are still in good condition. The hydraulic spheres were last replaced in 2008 and the hydro-pneumatic suspension works as designed.The original owners manual, warranty book, original keys, and tire changing tools are included with the car. A comprehensive set of service and repair receipts dating back to 1974 is also provided. This SM has never suffered neglect or abuse, having been owned by multiple enthusiast owners throughout its life, and the 5-speed manual transmission and European headlight conversions add to its appeal.
