Description

1973 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible One of 4,943 â??Vette Convertibles made in 1973 First year for five-mph front bumper 350 CID V-8 engine (code L48) with four-barrel carb Turbo Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission Elkhart Green Metallic exterior (code 947) with new, tan top and Medium Saddle Vinyl interior (code 415) Air-conditioning, power steering and power four-wheel disc brakes New carpet Rallye wheels with white-letter tires and rear luggage rack Sold on an actual mileage title, showing 88,108 miles Like almost all Corvettes made between 1954 and 1981, this car came off the line right here at GMâ??s St. Louis, Missouri factory. Dressed in desirable Elkhart Green Metallic (code 947), the carâ??s paint and trim are in overall average condition however, there are blemishes visible on the carâ??s nose, passenger side fender, the hard tonneau behind the seats, at the right rear taillight and at the windshield frame. This Corvette is very presentable but not perfect. The carâ??s glass panels are in overall good shape and the passenger side window still bears the original Astro Ventilation logo. The carâ??s lights are in satisfactory shape while overall, the carâ??s body work is in great order. The engine bay is tidy, the cargo area behind the seats is satisfactory, thereâ??s an external, chrome luggage rack for additional storage and the carâ??s bumpers fit well to the body. The undercarriage looks to be very solid. The car rolls on Firestone Firehawk white letter radials, size 255/60R15 at all four corners and each tire is wrapped around a slotted Rallye wheel. The tires show their age but the wheels are in good order. Under the forward-hinged hood is a 350 CID V-8 engine (code L48) with a Rochester Quadra-Jet 4MV four-barrel carburetor. Mated to the engine is a Turbo Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power steering and power four-wheel disc brakes. Inside, the carâ??s Medium Saddle vinyl interior (code 415) has new matching carpeting while the bucket seats are in very good order. A light switch knob is missing, the three-spoke, wrapped steering wheel, inner door panels, instrument panel and center stack with full instrumentation all look good, however the tachometer is inoperable. The center console and shifter are in similar, satisfactory condition. Completing the interior is a factory AM/FM stereo. Nineteen seventy-three started the Corvette's transformation from muscle to touring sports car. A Chevrolet advertisement headlined: â??We gave it radials, a quieter ride, guard beams and a nose job.â? Indeed, redesigned body mounts and radial tires did improve Corvette's ride, and interior sound levels were reduced by 40 percent. The chrome rear bumper carried over from the previous year. However, the chrome blade front bumper was dropped for the federally required five mph standard for a light-weight front bumper system with an inner transverse tube attached to the frame with two Omark-bolts (special steel fasteners which absorbed energy when a forming die, pushed back by the bumper, was forced down their length) and an injection-molded urethane bumper cover. Engineers chose the urethane nose was chosen over the alternative, a more protruding version of the previous metal bumper. The new urethane bumper assembly added 35 pounds to the front end. Other changes included a domed hood and a fixed rear window, which provided additional interior storage space.
