Description
A subsequent refurbishment completed in 2008 included replacement of sheet metal, reconditioned doors, refinishing in white over a red and white interior, and more. Power comes from an overhauled 1,147cc Triumph inline-four mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The Amphicar was designed by Hans Trippel, and the 770 model name referred to the vehicleâ??s theoretical seven-knot peak water speed and 70-mph maximum road speed. A replacement black convertible top has also been fitted. Trim and accessories include chrome bumperettes as well as a marine-style bump strip, horn, and navigation lights. Powder coated Red 13â?³ wheels wear chrome Amphicar hubcaps and 175/80 Douglas Xtra-Trac A/W whitewall tires. The transmission is shifted into neutral and a lever is engaged to activate the propellers when entering the water, while the front wheels become rudders. The interior features roll-down side and pop-out wing windows. A two-spoke steering wheel frames MotoMeter instrumentation consisting of a 90-mph speedometer, a clock, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. Total mileage is unknown.
