Description
This 1980 BMW Alpina B7 Turbo Coupe is number 44 of 153 built between 1978 and 1982. The B7 Turbo Coupe was based on the 630CSi which was then extensively modified in the Alpina factory. All B7 turbos were customer ordered and hand built in Buchloe, Germany based upon a new BMW chassis. Few original cars survive and only a handful are in located in the United States. In addition to the Alpina interior and exterior cosmetic enhancements the suspension was reworked and the engine was turbocharged and intercooled to provide 300 HP, matching a contemporary 911 Turbo. This example was imported to the US in the 1980s at which time rear mounted running lights were installed to meet US DOT requirements but no other changes were made. It currently has 135k km (84k miles) from new and is in good condition with working A/C and up-to-date maintenance.Polaris Silver paint is in good condition and the body is straight with no significant dents or other damage. The color on the left front fender looks slightly off and the seller believes it has been repainted, though the effect is more noticeable in photos than in person. The original European bumpers are still installed and no steel reinforcement bars were added in the doors or bumpers when the car was imported. Alpina wheels are in good condition and four new Dunlop Direzza tires have recently been installed. The original Alpina front spoiler was damaged when the car was imported, and as no Alpina spoilers were available in the US at the time a Zender replacement was installed which remains on the car. The power windows were recently serviced with two new rear electric window regulators and all the window switches and window motors have been cleaned and lubricated. This example was equipped with air conditioning from new which was recently recharged with R12 and works as designed. Alpina also installed an auxiliary 30L fuel tank in the trunk to provide additional driving range, which remains in place and functional. The original European dashboard instruments are still installed and work correctly, and the Alpina steering wheel and shift knob are also present. The original stereo has been replaced with an aftermarket Blaupunkt CD player. The transmission is a close ratio dog-leg 5 speed. The Alpina built turbocharged and intercooled 3.0L inline six runs well with no oil burning or significant leaks and all the original modifications are intact. The engine was reworked for boost by Alpina when new including low compression 7.5:1 pistons, a special wasted spark distributor-less ignition system, and a KKK turbocharger with adjustable boost. Alpina also tuned the suspension with lowering springs, custom valved Bilstein shocks, and an adjustable front anti-roll bar.The head was rebuilt in 2003 with correct BMW and Alpina parts due to a slightly burned valve, and the driveshaft and limited slip differential were recently refurbished. The differential work was performed by Korman Autoworks and increased the lockup to 40% on the LSD. Service records are available from the current ownerâ??s 14 year ownership.Boost level can be adjusted from 0.5 bar to 0.9 bar via a knob installed on the transmission tunnel between the seats. The undercarriage and rocker panels are solid with no evidence of rust or accident damage. The car retains its original European exhaust system with no catalytic converter.
