Description

Toyota Land Cruiser BJ42 Diesel, right-hand driveThis is a 1982. EBay wouldn't accept the VIN at that year, given that it was assigned by the DMV upon importWe have owned this cruiser for 14 years, after importing it from New Zealand, where it was reportedly a park ranger vehicle for Mount Cook National Park. We have focused on it being solid mechanically and have never thought of doing body or paint work; loving the patina and its very big personality. Mechanically it is rock solid and a whole-lot of fun! This has always been my dream vehicle and it has been loved and cared for well in the 14 years we have had it. I never thought I would sell it, so I do not have all of the receipts, but no corner has been cut. I have to sell it at this time, unfortunately. The cruiser gets a lot of looks and attention. It has awesome character and late night drives with the top off and windshield down will be very much missed by my family. We were hoping for a long-awaited upgrade this summer; to install a turbo and add power-steering/assist. Such improvements will complete this rig as far as I am concerned and for the investment, a profound upgrade. I regret that we cannot do these before listing it. This has always been a fair-weather vehicle for us and has been stored indoors except for in the summer (always started and run monthly when in storage). The odometer has not worked since we have owned it and reads 331,099 Km (205,735 Miles). We have put maybe 5-600 miles on per year and have not off-roaded it much at all.It has a full soft top (new) and the original hard top and doors (the top is disassembled, but complete. The white top needs a repaint). All original doors, including rear ambulance doors in good shape. Rare (and working) factory PTO winch. As a diesel with a short wheel-base, it does not like freeway speeds (over 65 or so). That will likely change with a turbo. Fuel economy is awesome: I approximate 20-22 mpg. I run diesel or bio diesel (with switchable CNG).Upgrades and Modifications:It has a full-size Metaltech roll cage with a 6-speaker, marine-grade sound system Marine grade Corbeau seats (lap or shoulder-straps installed) and rear, collapsible bench. Center locking console with CD/Bluetooth stereo and amp.Complete Alcan suspension swap with Bilstein shocks and reengineered mounts. It is an approximate 5-6 inch lift, with incredible articulationNew Toyo M/T Open Country tires.Inline CNG system (mixes in-line with diesel and can be shut off on the fly)Upgraded/oversized air filter with SnorkelJack mount and full swinging rear tire and jerry can mountsThe injector pump had a complete rebuild in 2013The exhaust has been rebuilt in the last few years as have the front knucklesTransmission temp gauge has been addedIt is currently getting a complete windshield and gasket replacementNeeds:It could use a turbo and the 3B engine is very responsive to this upgrade. With the turbo (and already installed CNG), there will undoubtedly be a significant power increase. It smokes more than we want it to and because it needs the turbo (and because we live at a high altitude). Like most cruisers of it's age and design, the steering is a little loose and could use some light reengineering and steering-assist. Also like most cruisers it has a few areas of rust. Two areas need attention: the passenger step and bed corners (see photos). Both fenders have some damage (see photos). We like the character, but you might want to replace them. The factory EDIC control failed a few years ago (as they almost certainly do over time) and we replaced it with a manual shut-off below the steering wheel. It isn't an issue for us, but to note.Buyer is responsible for arranging shipment, however we are happy to help on our end as we can to ensure it gets to you smoothly.
