Description
Year: 1920s Make: Brewster Model:91 The car was later purchased by collector Henry Austin Clark, who displayed it at his Long Island Auto Museum in Southampton, New York, between 1948 and 1979. Finished in green and black with caned rear bodywork, the car retains a 276. 5ci Knight sleeve-valve inline-four mated to a three-speed manual transmission. Additional features include mechanically actuated rear drum brakes, cantilever rear leaf springs, yellow-painted wood-spoke wheels with detachable rims, black front-compartment upholstery, tan cloth rear-compartment upholstery, a retractable glass partition between compartments, a Motor Dictograph communication system, rear-compartment blinds, and a passenger-compartment foot warmer. Founded as a carriage builder in 1810, Brewster & Company began importing and bodying chassis for a variety of European marques in the early 1900s, and in 1914 was tabbed to serve as Rolls-Royceâ??s New York sales agent and US coachwork provider. The Long Island-based company began offering its own portfolio of automobiles in 1916 and continued production through 1925. Powered by Knight sleeve-valve engines, Brewster models were distinguished by their oval radiators and leather fenders. Crazing and peeling of the finish are present on the wood front side panels and metal grille shell, and a tear is present in the retractable fabric chauffeurâ??s roof. Cracks and bubbling are present across the passenger-compartment windows. Features include front and rear bumpers, Lecalite headlights, a Klaxon horn, a two-piece windshield, and dual side mirrors.
