Description

This 1973 BMW 3.0 CS is a clean driver that features a 4-speed manual transmission and a 3.0 liter inline-six with a new block, internals, and Weber carburetors fitted by a previous owner. Extensive service records dating back 30 years document an exterior repaint in addition to the engine rebuild, partial interior reupholstering, and regular servicing. Recent mechanical servicing includes new tie rods, fuel pump, rebuilt power steering pump, and clutch slave cylinder. The older finish shows wellfor its age, displaying good shine over the Karmann-built body surfaces.Brightwork, chrome accents, and trim are believed to be original pieces and contrast nicely with the dark blue paintwork while exhibiting proper fit and shine. Plastic lenses and rubber trim show equally well and appear to remain free of any noticeable cracking or fading. The car retains its 14 FPS light alloy wheels which are noted by the seller to be in fine shape and come wrapped in newer Michelin rubber. The cabin appears to be largely original and complete apart from the installation of an older aftermarket radio and period-correct Nardi steering wheel. Aside from the malfunctioning clock and radio, all instrumentation, controls, and electric accessories are said to remain fully functional including the A/C. Included in the sale and shown in the gallery below are a new leather instrument hood and shift boot. Though the functioning odometer shows 65k miles, the seller notes that records indicate it has rolled and that true mileage is likely 165k.Apart for some cracking shown on the passenger door, the interior wood trim remains complete and in serviceable condition. The original driver and passenger leather seat covers appear well worn, though they retain taut surfacing and remain free of any rips or seam separations. Recent maintenance performed includes:New Tie RodsNew Fuel PumpNew Clutch slave CylinderNew BatteryNew Alternator & Voltage RegulatorRebuilt Power Steering PumpRecords document the car as a lifelong West coast resident prior to its move to Colorado. Provided lift shots highlight an underside that shows some typical surface corrosion on mechanical components, but remains clean and well-preserved overall. The 4-speed manual transmission manual is said to work well apart from a worn second gear synchro.Among the records dating back to 1986 is the lengthy multi-page service invoice shown above, which documents the engine work undertaken by the previous owner.Extensive service records, sorted mechanicals, and a desirable color combination make this 3.0CS a compelling choice for E9 ownership.
