Description
This 1939 Cadillac 75 is the first of two matching town cars custom-built by Brunn & Company of Buffalo, New York on special order for Philadelphia art collector and horse racing magnate Joseph E. Widener. The car remained with Mr. Widener at his Lynnewood Hall residence in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania until his passing in 1943. Aluminum bodywork is finished in black and burgundy, and power is from a 346ci Monobloc V8 paired with a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. Additional features include a retractable canopy over the chauffeur’s seat as well as a partition ahead of the passenger compartment, which contains fold-out jump seats, dual vanities, radio controls, a separate speedometer, and a St. Christopher medallion from Hermès of Paris. Cadillac also provided 13 chassis-only variants to other coachbuilders, including the pair sent to Brunn & Company in Buffalo, New York. According to a 1972 letter from Hermann C.
