The premium brand was born when Edsel Ford himself directed designer E.T. Bob Gregorie toward the creation of a new Lincoln that was a step above the midpriced Zephyr lineup. Reaction to a one-off prototype that Edsel drove to his annual Palm Beach vacation was overwhelmingly positive, and the first Continental emerged in 1941. The all-new halo car drew buyers into Lincoln showrooms in droves. The concours-quality restoration spared no detail and returned the Continental to its rightful position at the top of the Lincoln lineup. Black paint and historically accurate gold-plated trim accents low-slung style from the horizontal grille to the signature rear-mounted spare that gave the Continental its name. Stowing the tan top reveals tan leather interior with a body-color dash, correct gold-plated trim and an optional AM radio. The engine bay displays exacting detail. Model year 1942 brought refinements to the flathead V-12 engine, and the inherently smooth 306/130 HP performer is mated to a 3-speed manual transmission with column shift. Cars in great condition runs and drives well.
