1956 Bentley S1 Saloon by Hooper

The body is finished in white over red leather, and power comes from a 4. 9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Features include rear-hinged back doors, rear wheel spats, a bright grille, electric front windows, rear picnic trays, and a His Master’s Voice radio. Work in January 2021 included adjusting a rear-window mechanism, retorquing engine- and transmission-pan hardware, and replacement of the spark plugs, plug wires, and door seals. The Bentley S1 and its sibling, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, were launched in 1955. Over a four-year production run, Bentley Motors built a total of 3,107 four-door S1s, of which just 145 vehicles were supplied to coachbuilders for completion. This car, chassis B293AP, received its aluminum “Empress” four-door saloon coachwork from Hooper & Co. of London, England. Hooper records indicate that this car is one of 40 S1 saloons bodied by the company—and one of three produced with rear wheel spats. The exterior is finished in white with red pinstriping above the beltline.
