Description

I bought this car last year thinking I could keep both of our 58's, but lack of room, and being out-voted in the house, I have to let this one go. I really like this car. It's fairly highly optioned and most accessories function well. I have done a lot of work to it since buying. I will outline all of the repairs completed in the sections below. Please watch this video I posted on youtube. It is a very detailed walk through of the inside and outside of the car.https://youtu.be/rIwNKvE9tfYBody/PaintThis car started life wearing Blue Mist lower body color with a Polar Mist top. Sometime in the early or mid 80's, it was repainted in the color you see now. The firewall still retains the original paint. The quality seems adequate for a driver. I would rate it a 5/10. But I'm a paint and body guy, so I see every little imperfection. As far as rust/rot, when they repainted the car, there were some repairs made to the areas under the headlights where nearly every 58 is rusty. There is also some repair visible in the doglegs behind the rear doors, and on the passenger side outer rocker. The trunk weatherstripping channel is a bit rough along the bottom edge. Please watch the video linked above to see in detail what it all looks like. Chrome/BrightworkWhen the car was redone in the 80's, it appears that the chrome was also redone at that time. Although it is showing its age, it presents well. The RH rear bumper end has a hole in it that's covered by aluminum tape. Same for the RH rear gravel guard. One small hole. Otherwise, the chrome is very shiny or just lightly pitted. Stainless is in nice shape, minus a could little dings here and there on the side trim. Again, I cover all of this in the video link I posted above.InteriorVery serviceable! It's not in shambles like you would normally see a car of this age. It appears to be in original condition except the front seat cloth insert and the door panel hand pull pieces.Original carpet, headliner, package tray, headliner, dash parts. The dash pad is starting to sag and has a few cracks in it, but it's not terrible. It has the original floor mats in front, which is pretty rare for these cars. Wonderbar radio works, and also works with the foot control. Autronic Eye is functional. Power antenna motor runs, but antenna does not go up or down. Clock does not work. Gauges all appear to work except the speedometer. I have a new one to swap in, but haven't had a chance to get it installed. The headliner is all in once piece, but is discolored. Door panels are in decent shape, except the upper portion of the driver front panel. It has a couple cracks and one small piece missing. All of this is outlined in the video posted above.Engine/Transmission/DrivelineI have replaced several things here. Rebuilt correct carburetor and linkage. Tune up kit with new spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor. The radiator was boiled out and a crack in the cap neck was repaired. Brand new battery. New battery cables. The car runs very nicely and doesn't stumble or fall on its face when accelerating. It has a brand new exhaust system front to back. Transmission is a standard 2T Dynaflow. Limiteds came standard with a Flight Pitch, but many of them were swapped out with Dynaflows at the dealers due to being problematic. It works exactly how it should and is nice and crisp. I replaced the torque ball seal shortly after I bought it. There is some light leakage from the transmission in other areas, but if you're familiar with these cars, minor leakage is part of the deal. Brakes/Wheels/TiresI serviced the brakes all the way around. The car stops really well.Wheels are original 58 wheels with brand new Diamond Back Auburn Classics. These are radial tires meant to mimic the look of bias ply tires. These are $300 each new. I have also installed new shocks in all four corners.UndercarriageThe underside of this car is not crusty at all. No rot in the floors, bottom sides of rockers, or frame. Yes, it's dirty and has surface rust. But nothing terminal. I was pleasantly surprised to see how clean it is when replacing the torque ball seal.Rubber Parts/WeatherstrippingAll of this stuff is original to the car. Most of it is still hanging on ok. The lower section of the trunk seal is gone, but I think that's it. I have also show all of this in the video link posted above.I have no problem with selling this car worldwide. Buyer will have to arrange shipping, or local pickup. I will always welcome inspections if you want to come see the car prior to purchasing. I don't want any surprises, as I'm sure you don't either. Thank you for looking!
