Description

This 1970 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 had a complete cosmetic and mechanical restoration completed in 2010 and 2011. In 2010, the body was restored, both axles were rebuilt, and the braking system was upgraded to discs all around by Global Extreme Restorations in Hobe Sound, Florida. In 2011, the truck went to TLC 4Ã?4 in Chatsworth, California for a full mechanical overhaul, and a rebuilt 2F inline-six and a rebuilt 4-speed manual transmission were installed. The truck comes with records from the restoration, over 100 photos documenting the process, and is being sold by a dealer with a clean New Jersey title. During the restoration, the body was taken apart and each panel was stripped to bare metal, primed, sealed, and base clear coated. Dune Beige (416) paint was then applied, and the undersides of the panels were coated with Medallion RS-701-1 rubberized undercoat. In addition to the body work, the entire frame was sanded, primed, and painted with 2k poly black paint. The truckâ??s doors were replaced with a pair from a 1982 FJ40, and new side mirror assemblies were installed. Over 90% of the bolts, washers, and nuts were replaced with full threaded stainless steel units and the remaining bolts, washers, and nuts were restored, painted, and yellow plated. Additional exterior features include a new front bumper, rear bumperettes, OEM emblems, hood rest pads, front turn signals, and more. Inside the cabin, new front seats and rear jump seats have been fitted with dark brown upholstery and a center console/lock box has been added. Over the shoulder seat belts can be seen up front, and lap belts have been installed for the rear seats. The roll bar was powdercoated black and new pads were attached. New grey door panels have been added along with new shifter boots. The sparse utilitarian dash panel is in stock formation and features a new underpad. The latches for the fold-down front windshield were refinished, and a new heater unit was installed. When the truck went to TLC for mechanical work the drivetrain was inspected, and the decision was made to install a later model 4. 2 liter 2F inline-six. The engine was fully rebuilt and was paired to a rebuilt 4-speed manual transmission, as opposed to the stock column-mounted 3-speed manual. The transfer case was also rebuilt, and a new brake cable, clutch, flywheel, and battery were installed. The cooling system was replaced which included a new radiator, hoses, water pump, and thermostat. Additional work from TLC included some minor electrical repairs, a fresh powdercoat on the factory wheels, new hubcaps, and new BFG All Terrain T/A tires. An invoice for the work done shows a total of nearly $16k was spent at TLC. The restoration work done by GXR included a restored frame, new tie rod ends, rebuilt front and rear axles with new bearings, seals, and gaskets, new shocks, and larger shackles. The braking system was upgraded to four wheel disc brakes. The data plate shows the FJâ??s frame number as #85648, which indicates the truck was built in June of 1970. Records from the restoration process by GXR and TLC are included in the sale. Filed under: fj, fj 40, fj-40
