Description
This 1963 Porsche 356B is a T6 coupe which is powered by a Super 90 type 616/7 1,582cc flat four and retains a largely stock appearance inside and out. Originally black as evidenced by code 6213 on its chassis tag, the car now wears red paint throughout. Chrome wheels wear crested chrome caps, external weights, and modern Kumho radials. Full front and rear bumpers are retained along with chrome overriders and factory brightwork. Super 90 badging is present on the rear along with a single Karmann emblem on the passenger fender. Front bucket seats are upholstered in a pattern similar to factory, with occasional cuts visible in their perforated center inserts. A Nardi wood steering wheel has replaced the original. Carpet and a single-piece ribbed rubber mat protect the floors. Photos are included to document the condition of the door panels, headliner, and glove box. Chrome-ringed instruments include a tachometer with a 5,000 rpm redline rather than the Super 90â??s correct 5,500 rpm item. A VDO clock is retained in the dash and a blanking plate is fitted in lieu of a radio, although a speaker grille is visible in the driverâ??s side kick panel. The front trunk compartment is shown in several photos and retains the plastic liner, leather spare wheel strap, and remnants of tarred jute factory insulation. Power is from a 1,582cc Type 616/7 flat four bearing serial number 806684, which is correct for a Super 90. Weber downdraft carburetors have replaced the original Solex units and breathe through aftermarket air cleaners. A factory rating of 90 peak horsepower gave the Super 90 its name. Shifting is via a 4-speed transmission, while suspension includes a 15mm front sway bar along with a â??camber compensatorâ? transverse rear leaf spring as fitted to the Super 90 models from the factory. New sway bar bushings have been installed. Engine serial number 806684 is pictured above, though no Porsche Certificate of Authenticity or other supporting documentation is available to confirm matching numbers. Included records for parts and service reportedly cover from 1982 onward. Filed under: 356
