Description
Power is provided by a rebuilt 3. 8-liter XK inline-six linked with a replacement GM-sourced TH700R4 automatic transmission, and the car is finished in a two-tone blue and silver scheme over dove gray leather. Features include a power-adjustable front bench, power windows and locks, a DVD entertainment system, a sunroof, and air conditioning. Mechanical work included replacing the power steering box, overhauling the four-wheel disc brake system, reconditioning the suspension, and more detailed on more than 400 pages of included documentation. The Mark IX shared its bodywork with the preceding Mark VIII with the addition of enlarged tail light housings with separate turn signal lenses as well as chrome Mark IX badging on the trunk lid. The car was disassembled and chemically stripped, rust repair was performed on the lower bodywork and the panels were treated, and the exterior was then refinished in the present two-tone blue and silver scheme separated by chrome trim. The exterior chrome trim was replated and polished prior to installation with new gaskets in 2004, and was re-polished in 2015. Close-up photos showing the finish, panel gaps, sunroof, and lenses are provided in the gallery. Factory steel wheels are fitted with body-color and chrome knock-off style covers and are mounted with Coker Classic whitewall tires. The Mark IX was the first Jaguar sedan to be equipped with four-wheel Dunlop disc brakes, and the system was overhauled with replacement lines, hoses, rebuilt calipers, and updated brake pads.
