A 1964 Ford wagon is a high water mark for full size Fords especially wagons. The beautifully proportioned "Space Race" inspired body lines with the Rocketship taillights, make the 1964 Ford wagon arguably one the best looking wagons. This Country Sedan began life January 29th built in Los Angeles, California. This Country Sedan was born with a Z code "Thunderbird" 390cid V8 motor with a Cruise O Matic transmission. Finished in Wimbeldon White with a Beige interior, with the optional Swing A Way Steering Wheel, Power Windows, Power Seat, Selectaire Air Conditioning. Other than not being a country squire this is a very highly optioned wagon with essentially the best drivetrain in its original form. But that clearly was not enough for this hot rodder. The 390cid V8 was replaced with a 428cid v8 motor. Not just any 428, the details matter and this is a period correct hot rod motor and was built with a formula that later would be known as a Cobra Jet 428. A 1966 428 block, with Edelbrock 427 big valve Aluminum heads, Giovannon Cam, with authentic Mercury chrome valve covers. Inhaling through a high rise aluminum intake manifold, and exhaling through 1963-64 Ford 427 cast iron long tube headers. The transmission was upgraded to a heavy duty C6 Cruise O Matic transmission. To compensate for the increase size the installation was performed the right way with the crossmember relocation custom fabricated and welded in place. What goes fast must stop, so the front brakes have been upgraded to Disc brakes along with period correct American Racing TTO Mag wheels with new tires. "Tasteful Modifications" has become a cliche term that extenuates what's tasteful is only in the eyes of the beholder which more often than not is only the seller. This is not one of those examples. This is carefully thought out hot rod wagon, upgraded with authentic period correct parts while retaining most of its originality. From a historical standpoint, this car comes from an era that was the golden age of hot rodding residing in California the epicenter of hot rodding. The original Fairlane rear taillights were upgraded to original Galaxie taillights. The car has all of the original glass that has been lightly tinted. The original dash is flawless with no cracks. All of the original stainless gauges are in great shape and functional. The original swing A way steering wheel is in great shape. The original headliner is in great shape with no holes. All of the door panels are original and all of the power windows are functional. Mechanically this Ford is a beast.
