Description

This 1964 Porsche 356C Coupe was purchased new by the sellerâ??s father, who ordered the car through Porscheâ??s European Delivery program on October 25, 1963 at Cotton Goff Porsche/VW in Buena Park, California. This is an unrestored Reutter-built coupe that is said to retain its factory 1600cc engine and 4-speed transmission. Earlier this year, the seller had this car taken to McKenna Porsche in Norwalk, California where any needed mechanical fixes were addressed at a cost of nearly $13k with the 7-page receipt displayed below. Now said to be in excellent running condition, this single-family 356 is being offered with some service records, its original purchase order, statement of origin, shipping certificate, all original manual. On April 27, 1964 the car was shipped from Rotterdam in the Netherlands aboard the ship M/S Doni Mari of the Wallenius Line, with a picture of the vessel shown in the photo gallery below. A few weeks later, the Doni Mari arrived in Los Angeles and the car was picked up and enjoyed for 52 years. To the best of the sellerâ??s knowledge, this car has always been garaged and has spent its entire life in Southern California, though his father despised the California DMV and registered the car in Oregon. This car wears its factory-correct color of Champagne Yellow, which a 356 specialist at McKenna Porsche claimed was approximately 40% original as the driver-side fender, door, and part of the hood were damaged and repainted after an accident many years ago. The driverâ??s side A-pillar shows some cracking and the seller says that in bright sunlight you can see the difference in paint color where the driverâ??s fender meets the hood. Both flaws are detailed in the photo gallery below. The driver-side door jamb is missing the steel pillar where the Reutter paint (Kunstharzlack) and chassis number (Karosserie) plates are supposed to be. The seller assumes that when the car was involved in the accident, the pillar and plates were damaged and were not reattached. Reproduction Reutter paint and chassis number plates will be included with the sale. The seller also mentions that this 356 was given an Oregon identification number (OR30847) in addition to its factory chassis number (#128182).The front trunk retains its original spare tire/wheel and received a new battery box recently since the original pieces had corroded. Both hinges were replaced, but the hood can still be difficult to close and could use adjustment according to the seller. Two Bilstein jacks are included with the sale and the seller believes one of them is original to the car. The factory toolkit is missing.Inside, the car was inspected by McKenna Porsche and the seller was told that that the carpet and headliner are not original, but that the seats still retain their factory material. The seat belts are modern reproductions and the overall interior condition looks to be solid. All instrumentation and lighting is said to be in good working order, though the horn, radio, and clock are currently inoperable. The functioning odometer displays 31,890 miles and the seller cannot confirm how many times it has rolled over. He believes it is likely 131k total miles, though his father also owned a Mercedes 240D that had 865k miles when he sold it.This 356 is said to retain its numbers-matching Type 616/15 1600cc engine (#712035). The car had mostly sat since around 2014, so the seller had the vehicle shipped to McKenna Porsche earlier this year where a 356 specialist with over 30 years of experience went through the mechanicals and remedied any major issues at a cost of nearly $13k. As a result, the engine and transmission are said to perform nicely with easy starts, smooth shifts, and good power throughout the rev range.Several underbody pictures are shown with the seller stating that surface rust is present where the factory undercoating has detached over time.
