Description

This Jaguar SS100 re-creation was built in 2005 by Suffolk Sportcars in the UK and features a chassis designed in-house by Suffolk which accommodates the suspension, brakes, and driveline from a 1965 Jaguar S-Type. Paul Nesse, who has since modified it in the spirit of a rally racer utilizing styles and techniques inspired by his artwork. Features include an exposed aluminum hood, aluminum rear bodywork, leatherette exterior covering, a wood dash, 7” driving lights, and drum-style covers concealing the disc brakes. Power is provided by a 3. 8-liter XK inline-six mated to a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. The car is accented by several emblems, badges, and figures hand-sculpted by Nesse, while additional artistic touches include a custom buffalo-hide luggage case, beeswax-dipped steering wheel wrap, and rivet heads on aluminum panels. Since acquiring the car, Nesse has added 9k of its 23k miles while participating in various rallies and highway tours around the US. During a career spanning more than three decades, Nesse has been commissioned to create bronze sculptures of automotive figures such as Carroll Shelby, Stirling Moss, Phil Hill, Mario Andretti, Rene Dreyfus, and Zora Arkus-Duntov. After purchasing this SS100 reproduction and importing it to the US, he began appointing it with various metals and finishes to create a “rolling sculpture” inspired by period rally cars. The car was finished in black over fiberglass panels during the original build by Suffolk, who crafted SS100 replicas utilizing the drivelines of Jaguar saloons for 20 years before ceasing production in 2020.
