Description
1954 Packard Henney Jr. ambulance. It was a conversion performed by the Henney company, and is called a "jr." because it is the smaller of the two ambulance bodies they produced in 1954. The Jr. was only produced in 1953 and 1954. At some point during the 1954 model year, Packard realized they were losing money on each ambulance they sold, so they raised the price by $1000. in 1954, that was a very large sum of money, and the price increase basically halted any further orders. As a result, only 120 Jr's were produced. This ambulance is in excellent condition. The paint, chrome, trim, glass and interior are all very nice. The mileage shown is believed to be actual mileage, but true mileage is unknown. The motor has been rebuilt, starts easily and purrs like a kitten at idle. The motor is a 272 cubic inch straight eight. The transmission is a 3-speed manual on the column. The system is still 6 volt, and the red lights in the bumper and on the roof are functional. I was very excited to get this car, and am very disappointed in having to sell it. I'm 6'5", 300 pounds, and simply do not fit. The seat is as back as far as it can go and the steering wheel is in my chest. There is cabinet work behind the seat that houses the spare tire, and I don't want to have to modify that and move the spare to a different location.
