Description

This 1973 Citroen SM is a US-market car that was restored in 2007 by Jerry Hathaway of SM World. Work included disassembly, a full repaint, and a conversion to European headlights. In 2014 the Maserati-sourced 3.0L V6 and 5-speed manual transmission were completely rebuilt by SM World. The car remains in nice mechanical and cosmetic condition, and the oleo pneumatic system is said to be working as it should.Following a minor accident, the previous owner sold it to SM Works rather than having to deal with insurance or repair. The car was then treated to a complete restoration by Hathaway. The headlights and front fascia were converted to European specifications during the process. This includes fully-fared lights that follow the steering angle, and the removal of the US-spec side markers. Rear US-spec license plate lights have been replaced with a correct NOS euro unit. The rear lighting remains standard, and the stock dual exhausts for the Maserati-developed V6 can be seen exiting from beneath the rear bumper. The paintwork shows well in photos, though the seller notes some 1cm cracks on the roof. The car retains its original wheel covers with modern Michelin rubber. The interior was also restored in 2007 with brown leather upholstered in correct factory patterns. An original radio still resides just to the right of the parking brake handle in the center console. The 33k indicated miles are not believed accurate. The driverâ??s seat shows signs of use, but no undue wear or creasing. All features and instruments are said to work as they should, including the cold-blowing A/C.The trunk is nicely trimmed in grey carpet with a matching spare tire cover. This car was maintained by SM World for some time prior to its restoration. During the restoration the engine was rebuilt and mildly upgraded for greater power. Hathawayâ??s rebuild process for the 3.0L Maserati V6 includes a full blueprinting along with modern ignition. The underhood light is the only item on the car noted to be not working. More recently the seller has had the car serviced by Dave Hume of Excelsior Motors in Lexington, Kentucky. The engine is equipped with an unusual driveshaft for the accessory pullies, and the modern Sanden A/C compressor and alternator are fitted well forward. All of the green painted components for the hydro-pneumatic suspension look nicely restored, and the unpainted aluminum components show no apparent corrosion.
