Description

1968 GTO convertible, Black on Black with Black parchment interior. Correct YS motor, but not the one it was born with. I don't know why the original was replaced? but the someone went out of there way to replace it with a correct YS 68 GTO model. For a driver the paint is still very nice. a small bit of bubbling and imperfections. I had the hood and trunk deck painted due to issues from being left in the sun. I've also done a lot things to it to get in to stock. The following is just a few items that i fixed that were wrong. Carpet, "while i had the interior out i also sound deadened the floors". Front seat backs, and trim, console was from a 69. They don't make a reproduction for a 68, so the original restorer just used a 69. I also have a proper stock OEM replacement radio should someone ever want the exact untouched model. Woodgrain dash was wrong. All the chroming was painted silver paint that looked ok to the untrained eye, but to me it was terrible and so wrong. Another $1000 fix. The dash wiring was all replaced. It was a mess!! Many wires were either burned, or frayed. Clock didn't work. Had that rebuilt. There was no spare. I found an OEM and put a new red line matching tire on it. After all the work i did including springs, exhaust, shocks all front bushings etc the engine compartment was still a mess, and not even close to OEM. Now its 95%. Only items i added that the GTO wasn't born with is the power brakes booster, close ratio steering gear and electronic ignition chip in lieu of points. Starts really fast even when it was -5F out. NICE DRIVER... Everything works! including the hideaway away lights. I had the brakes redone last summer as they just weren't right. The original restorer again cut corners and put 2" on the front and rear. Front takes 2 1/2" Stops now!! Note this car was born born green, with a white top and white interior. Top is in good shape. No tears or leaks. The only issue i'm aware of is a minor transmission leak. Looks like the pan seal. Car runs great, shifts great, steers straight and solid, sounds great.
