Description

This tube-frame race car was built by Comer Racing in 1999 and bodied as a Chevrolet Camaro for competition in the SCCA Grand Am American GT class, in which it finished first at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in 2000. The car retains its period red and white livery, and power is from a 358ci Chevrolet V8 that features dry-sump lubrication and is paired with an EMCO four-speed manual gearbox with dog engagement. Other features include adjustable aerodynamics, Penske coilovers, Alcon brakes, an ATL fuel cell, a roll cage, a Butler racing seat with Crow harnesses, and a fire suppression system. The car has competed in SCCA, SCRA, VARA and HSR events since 2011, most recently at the Classic 24 Hour at Daytona and the Sebring Historics in late 2020. Fiberglass body panels are mounted with quick-release fasteners and wear #84 Comer Racing livery. Features include an adjustable front splitter and rear wing, driver and brake cooling ducts, brake lamps, and open dual exhaust pipes exiting ahead of the right rear wheel. Bolt-on staggered 16? wheels are mounted with Goodyear Eagle racing slicks, and several spares of each are pictured in the gallery. Alcon disc brakes and Penske adjustable coilovers with remote reservoirs are mounted at all four corners. The driver enters through the window into a Butler Racing seat with a Crow harness showing a June 2021 expiration date. The roll cage includes cross bracing and side intrusion bars as well as a driver’s window net.
