Description

1972 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible Real Deal W29 442 (Not a clone, replica, recreation, tribute or whatever other nice words people use for knock offs these days) Rocket 350 4 BBL Engine TH-350 Automatic Transmission Bucket Seats Console Rally Pack Gauge Cluster Tic-Toc-Tach FE2 Suspension Package Power Trunk Release Power Top Power Steering Power Brakes Vanity Mirror Power Locks Sport Steering Wheel Sport Mirrors Drivers Side Remote Mirror Front/Rear Sway Bars Boxed Rear Lower Control Arms The car was basically rust free from my understanding and my own inspection of the car tends to reasonably agree with that assertion. The floors, trunk, 1/4 panels, and fenders are all original to the car. Of course I can't say for SURE the fenders are original, albeit the 4 and 4 are closer together than the 2, which is correct but always mistaken when these fenders are redrilled for emblems...even the templates are incorrect online that you can buy...so...I have no reason to believe they are not original to the car. The 442 received a complete makeover. The leaky 350 was completely rebuilt, standard bore, including all accessories...the TH-350 was rebuilt with heavy duty clutches, rear end was resealed, brakes...including all lines were replaced. Front and rear suspensions were rebuilt, steering box overhauled. All gauges were sent out and rebuilt. The convertible top frame was blasted and rebushed, body mounts replaced, ect. The bumpers were both replated...everything was just gone through. The interior appears to largely be original, sans the carpet...and in excellent shape, no rips, tears, ect. The foam in the seats HAD to be. replaced because they feel just excellent. The car was repainted its original color of Matador red, with the correct stripes on the hood, and the correct 442 belt line stripes. The convertible top was replaced with a upgraded glass rear window. All the weatherstripping was replaced...this made for a excellent street machine. The car was enjoyed for 10 summers, being driven about 500 miles a summer, kept covered in a heated garage. A few years ago, the original owner called me up, with the passing of his wife...he just didn't want the car anymore. So, I went out to New York and bought the car. I drove it 12 hours home without issue, not a leak, issue...nor a drop of burned oil. I have a rather large Oldsmobile collection and had a identical 72 I recently sold. This is one of those cars I'd keep forever but other hobbies have taken up my time and resources...so I'm selling off some toys. It just kills me to see these phony cars fetching more than the real ones by bolting on a W-25 hood and air cleaner. I like things the way they came from the factory.
