Description

This 1979 Toyota Land Cruiser is a Japanese-built, left-hand drive HJ45 pickup with a 3.6-liter diesel straight-six and 4-speed manual transmission. This version of the Land Cruiser was never marketed in the US according to the selling dealer, who recently imported this example from Costa Rica. The truck reportedly spent its previous life on a small coffee farm and recently underwent a restoration that included refinishing the frame and sheet metal, an engine rebuild, a new interior, mechanical overhauls, and more as detailed below.Restoration work included removal of the body followed by pressure cleaning and stripping of the undercarriage and frame. Sheet metal refinishing included corner work and multiple layers of primer, fresh paint in the original yellow, and clear coat.Recent photos show wood trim added around the edges of the bed, which is coated in a black liner. New mirrors were fitted along with fresh hood hold-downs, weather stripping, and lighting. Painted steel wheels wear mixed rubber front to rear.Refurbished or replaced interior items include the black vinyl seat upholstery, dashboard, headliner, door panels, windows, seals, trim, lighting, and more. Rubber floor coverings are lifted for photos showing the painted steel floors beneath. New gauges include a km/h speedometer with a fresh cable, and the 5-digit odometer shows just under 1,200 kilometers (~715 miles) since installation. Seat belts are fitted for driver and passenger.The 3.6-liter â??Hâ? diesel straight-six is said to be original and was rebuilt with new pistons, rings, bearings, lifters, oil pump, timing components, and seals. The crank and camshaft were checked and refurbished, while rebuilds were carried out for the fuel pump, diesel injection pump, injectors, and tank. New fuel lines and glow plugs were installed, and the electrical system benefits from a rebuilt alternator and starter. The radiator was overhauled along with installation of a fresh water pump and thermostat. The 4-speed manual gearbox and transfer case were opened for inspection and received fresh fluids. A new clutch, pressure plate, and bearing were installed along with a refurbished flywheel. Clutch hydraulics include new master and slave cylinders along with fresh hoses. Electrical and exhaust work were also carried out according to the seller. Bearing and seals were replaced in both axles, with the front additionally getting a new steering knuckle. The front shackles are replacements, while the rears got fresh bushings. An underbody photo shows the general condition of the drivetrain and rear suspension. A brake overhaul included a new power booster, hydraulic cylinders, front pads, and hoses in addition to refreshed rear drums. Japanese parts are said to have been used where possible, and records are available from the engine rebuild.
