Description

This 1987 BMW M6 is a clean example with 86k miles finished in Royal Blue Metallic over Lotus White leather. Less than 1,800 examples of the E24 M6 were produced for the North American market during 1987-88, and this one has been fitted with a handful of mild modifications including Bilstein shocks, lowering springs, a performance chip, Beyern wheels, cross-drilled rear brake discs, and an Alpine stereo. Motorsport-colored pinstripes appear uncut and paint flaws are limited to a handful of scattered chips according to the seller. Sheet metal appears straight with good panel fit, and no corrosion or signs of accident repair are visible in photos.Presentable black plastic and rubber cladding retains even coloration, including on the front grilles and large pre-1988 bumpers, while minimal bright trim looks clean throughout. Beyern wheels present well with occasional spots of rash and wear Bridgestone rubber showing shoulder wear up front as detailed in the gallery below. A set of original BBS wheels is also included. The front M6-specific air dam looks free of cracks or major scuffs, but shows a slight upward bend in the middle. Fog lights, corner markers, and taillight lenses all appear undamaged and retain good clarity, though a cracked headlight can be seen up front. Side and windshield glass seems clear and damage-free.Lotus White leather is said to be original and presents cleanly, with the front sport seats showing little typical bolster wear and rear buckets appearing lightly used. Matching stitched leather looks equally nice on consoles, doors, and rear side panels, all showing minimal evidence of use. The contrasting leather dash appears free of scuffs or split seams, though distortion is visible around the HVAC vents on its upper level. Carpeting looks clean for its age and is covered by factory mats.Clear instrumentation includes an M-specific tach and 170 mph speedometer supported by a center-mounted onboard computer with a working backlight. The factory three spoke pre-airbag wheel and a leather Motorsport shift knob look only lightly used. Intact plastic switchgear retains bright lettering on extensive console-mounted power seat controls. The original stereo has been replaced with a Bluetooth-enabled head unit from Alpine. The air conditioning system is said to work well.Underhood, the 3.5L S38 DOHC inline-six is said to run strong thanks to an aftermarket performance chip. An aftermarket exhaust downpipe has been installed and no catalytic converter is present, though the original exhaust pieces are included in the sale. The stock-looking engine bay shows no signs of corrosion or flaking finishes, though the hood pad is deteriorating.Power is transmitted through a Getrag 5-speed gearbox with a standard shift pattern in lieu of the dogleg first gear on some examples. The car is said to have been maintained regularly throughout its life and the seller will include service records from his three years with it, though prior paperwork is largely unavailable.Several leaks have been repaired during the sellerâ??s ownership and the underside now shows minimal evidence of escaped fluids. No signs of meaningful corrosion are visible on floor pans, chassis rails, or suspension pickups in photos. The original self-leveling rear suspension has given way to Bilstein shocks and lowering springs, which reportedly result in a compliant ride except on the bumpiest of roads.Slight rear wheel camber is noted by the seller as resulting from the rear suspension conversion. Cross-drilled rear brake discs have also been installed but running gear is said to remain otherwise stock. The original wheels and suspension self-leveling pump are included in the sale along with a car cover and near-complete factory tool kit.
