Description

This 1953 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe is one of 950 convertibles built for the model year and is finished in pale yellow over blue leather and plaid cloth. It is powered by a 331ci FirePower Hemi V8 that has been fitted with a four-barrel Edelbrock carburetor and is mated to a GM TH350 automatic transmission. For 1953 the New Yorker was offered in both standard and Deluxe models, though the convertible was only available as a Deluxe. Styling updates for the model year include a single-piece windshield, revised front fascia, and rear fenders integrated into the bodywork. The dark blue Stayfast canvas top is shown in its raised position in the gallery and can be stowed beneath a matching top boot. Kelsey Hayes-style 15” chrome wire wheels have been fitted and feature spinner-look covers. BFGoodrich tires are mounted all around. Four-wheel ventilated disc brakes with power assistance have been added in lieu of the original drums. An updated front subframe carries a tubular double-wishbone suspension setup as well as rack-and-pinion power steering, while the factory leaf-sprung rear suspension configuration is retained. Inside, front and rear bench seats are trimmed in blue and green plaid cloth inset in blue leather, with matching trim on the door panels.
