Description
Restoration work included complete disassembly, a repaint, interior re-trim, and mechanical rebuilds. The 1,991cc OHV inline-four is believed original and was updated with a Big Bore kit. Shifts are provided by a 4-speed manual with electronic overdrive operated via a dash switch, which the commission number shows was original equipment. Commission number TS31187LO confirms this TR3A was one of 15,996 produced for 1958, delivered in left-hand drive with overdrive. Under-hood body tags were added by Milliners Limited, who produced TR3 body shells. The upper piece with â??EBâ? prefix is typically close to the commission number but slightly higher, as is the case here. Lucas-style driving lights mounted between the front bumper overriders are a common TR3 upgrade. This video includes an engine start and 360 degree walk-around. A two-part epoxy system was used for the exterior repaint, and the stainless wire wheels are the only visible modification. Tear down and restoration of the body shell revealed a bit of filler, but no signs of prior frame damage, major body panel repairs, or significant accidents. The car is kept in a temperature and humidity controlled area. The re-trimmed cockpit includes red piping to seats and door panels, windscreen wing windows, rear occasional seat, correctly functioning heater, and a telescoping adjustable steering column thought to be original equipment. The 5-digit odometer registers just under 66k miles, and is believed to have rolled over once. This clip shows a short drive from behind the wheel. This Triumph rides on 15-inch 60-spoke stainless wire wheels, with Firestone S-211 radials mounted all around. The cubby behind the rear license holds a spare with good tread remaining. A new black vinyl soft top, top cover, driver-quality side curtains, and partial tool kit are also included in the sale. The rebuild of this 2. 0L inline-four included installation of a Big Bore kit using 87mm pistons and liners. With twin SU carbs and in original spec, the engine was rated at 95-100 hp when new. Under body photos confirm limited miles since the restoration, which included the addition of a stainless steel exhaust. In 1956, the TR3 became the first British production car to receive front disc brakes as standard equipment. Current British Columbia plates indicate this TR3 meets Province requirements as a Collector car, and may qualify for reduced insurance premiums. Filed under: tr3, tr3 a, tr3-a
