Description
This 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ43 underwent a body-off restoration in 2015 that included new paint, interior reupholstery, and a rebuild of its 4.2-liter straight-six. The FJ43 featured a slightly longer wheelbase and body compared to the FJ40, and these post-1979 examples featured a number of updates over older models. This example is equipped with a 5-speed transmission as well as power steering, front disc brakes, refreshed suspension, and more as detailed below. The body was stripped of its finish and metalwork included rust removal, patches welded into the door bottoms, and replacement of the front floor panels. Sheet metal was then sealed, epoxy primed, and refinished in single-stage yellow paint. Zinc-plated hardware is visible throughout. A new khaki soft top features roll-up side windows and reportedly performs well in wet weather. Exterior lighting is shown to work in photos.Inside, new door panels were sourced and seating was reupholstered in the factory style. Large rear jump seats help the interior comfortably fit six people according to the seller. Rubber mats cover the new floor panels, which are photographed in detail below. A large upper dash pad remains installed, though no lower pad is present.Factory gauges rest in a silver-painted bezel and include a working backlight. The 6-digit odometer shows just over 29k kilometers. Mixed switchgear is shown up close, and accessories are said to work as they should aside from the original AM/FM radio. No heater was equipped from the factory. The 4.2-liter 2F gasoline straight-six was reportedly rebuilt and resealed during the restoration. A new carburetor and starter were fitted along with fresh belts, spark plugs, and plug wires. Compression is said to measure between 120-125 psi across all six cylinders. Underhood photos show a factory-style air cleaner and brass radiator. A change of oil and filters was recently carried out by the seller.A new clutch was fitted for the 5-speed manual transmission, which is said to operate well. Power is routed through a two-speed transfer case to front and rear differentials. The truck is equipped with power steering and front disc brakes, which received new pads along with replacement of the shoes in the rear drums. Suspension and steering benefit from new ball joints, tie rods, heavy-duty Gabriel shocks, a steering stabilizer, new front leaf springs, and fresh bushings.Underbody photos show the general condition of the powder-coated frame and suspension as well as the replacement floors.
