Description
This 1931 Packard 840 Deluxe Eight is a dual-cowl Sport Phaeton model and is powered by a 385ci L-head straight-eight paired with a four-speed manual transmission. It is finished in green with a tan soft top over dark green leather, and equipment includes a rear-mounted trunk, spotlights, chrome bumpers and trim, twin side-mounted spares, driving lights, and hood vents. Subsequent mechanical recommissioning included installing a new carburetor, fuel pump, tires, and re-chromed wire wheels. The car rides on a 140. 5? wheelbase and wears body number 491, identifying it as a Deluxe Eight Sport Phaeton. The body was refinished in light green with darker green fenders and tan pinstriping during the refurbishment sometime prior to 1988. Features include a Goddess of Speed hood ornament, a radiator guard, a rear-mounted trunk, chrome bumpers and trim, spot lights, driving lamps, and side-view mirrors mounted atop the spare carriers. A first-prize winner badge from the Classic Car Club of America is attached to the passenger-side front fender. Corrosion on the rear bumper is noted by the selling dealer. The wire wheels have reportedly been re-chromed and are mounted with wide whitewall Firestone WW tires that were installed in 2020.
