Description
The body was removed and refinished in yellow over a black interior, and other work included reinforcing and refinishing a replacement frame, replacing and servicing the suspension and brakes, rebuilding the engine and transmission, refurbishing brightwork, and refreshing the interior. The car is equipped with a 1,558cc inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and modifications include Weber DCOE 151 carburetors, later-model Sprint-style camshafts, a ceramic-coated header and custom exhaust system, electronic ignition, a Mini-sourced alternator, a larger battery, AVO adjustable dampers, and upgraded springs. The fiberglass body was stripped, cracks repaired, and refinished in later-model Norfolk Mustard Yellow by The Paint Shop of Addison, Illinois in August 2020. Features include a replacement black Robbins soft top and tonneau cover, silver-finished bumpers, pop-up headlights, a chrome bullet-style driver-side mirror, and “Elan S2” badging on the fenders and the rear panel. The steering rack has been overhauled, and suspension work reportedly included rebuilding the trunnions, replacing the tie-rod ends, and installing AVO adjustable dampers as well as smaller-diameter springs that offer greater tire clearance. The interior features bucket seats that were rebuilt and retrimmed in black vinyl with a matching replacement dash pad, door panels, and carpeting. Other work included replacement of the shift knob, lap belts, pedal pads, and the door-glass channels and brush strips. A Springall wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts a refurbished mahogany veneer dash housing Smiths instrumentation that includes a 140-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. True mileage is unknown. The 1,558cc twin-cam inline-four utilizes a Ford engine block with a Lotus-designed cylinder head and produced a factory-rated 105 horsepower and 108 lb-ft of torque when new.
