Description

This 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo has 76k miles and is finished in the uncommon shade of Minerva Blue Metallic. This example retains its numbers matching turbocharged 3.3L flat-six and 4-speed manual transmission, and is equipped with a factory LSD. Although sold new in Indiana, the car was immediately brought to Georgia where it spent nearly 30 years under the care of its next several owners. Its sixth owner was a New Jersey enthusiast who spent over $35k on engine work and a host of upgrades to the forced induction system, cams, and ignition from 2008-2015. The car has been a part of the current ownerâ??s collection for just under a year, during which time it has received new GT3 suspension from Elephant Racing along with fresh brake calipers. The car was repainted in its original Minerva Blue Metallic in the late 1990s by a previous owner, and the finish retains a smooth appearance with nice shine. Overspray appears limited to the floor pans underneath according to the seller, while up top flaws include occasional dings along with touched-up edge chipping and pinholes in the finish under the right headlight as detailed in the gallery.Body panels line up well and look free of bends aside from a small, shallow depression below the Turbo badge on the rear deck lid. Optional heated and tinted mirrors are listed on the CoA along with stone guard appliqués, which were reapplied to the Turbo flares after paint. Headlights have been converted to European style and retain â??snorkelâ?Â washer nozzles, while vibrant plastic lenses and reflectors look undamaged throughout. The front compartment includes recently-installed Elephant Racing â??935 Xâ?Â triangulated quick-change tower braces, which are easily removable at the new ownerâ??s discretion. Undamaged carpeting covers a factory space-saver spare as well as a full tool kit with tire changing gloves. The original black leather buckets are well-preserved due to being stored while the prior owner used aftermarket seats, and now show slight wrinkling but no visible split seams and minimal overall wear. Carpeting looks presentable where visible under clean Turbo-scripted mats. The CoA indicates the car was ordered with a black headliner and electric sliding sunroof. A new leather-covered rear shelf is included in the sale but uninstalled. The dash cover shows no cracks visible in photos and only mild distortion, and other plastic trim appears clean throughout. Factory switchgear looks intact with vibrant labels and inserts, and clear stock instrumentation showing just over 76k miles is supplemented by auxiliary gauges mounted in lieu of the stock ashtray. A modern Blaupunkt stereo has supplanted the original unit. The air conditioning does not blow cold despite a newer-looking compressor in the engine bay.The numbers-matching turbocharged 3.3L flat-six which was refreshed and upgraded in 2009. Work included reconditioning of the cylinder heads, boring of the intake ports to match the injector block, and adding of V-Max performance valve springs. Camshafts are 3.5 SC profile versions and the common Carrera chain tensioner update has been performed.A Borg Warner K27 7200S turbo was fitted along with a KL-100 intercooler kit, 46mm wastegate, and XDi-2 dual-plug ignition. An upgraded non-catalyst exhaust and aftermarket heat exchangers have also been installed.Engine #6890197 can be seen above and confirms the engine as original according to the CoA. The car has reportedly been driven 16,000 miles since much of the mechanical work was completed in 2010, and is now tended to by the ownerâ??s full-time mechanics. The 4-speed manual gearbox was last serviced a few years ago and is original according to the stamping pictured in the gallery and the CoA, which also lists a factory limited-slip differential. New GT3 suspension from Elephant Racing has been installed by the current owner, replacing the stock crossmembers and control arms with lightweight aluminum pieces. Mounts, bushings, and ball joints have also been upgraded along with the addition of coilovers and hollow front and rear sway bars. The carâ??s original suspension is also included in the sale. The adjustable setup is currently set to â??medium softâ? for street use. New 930 brake calipers have been installed along with braided hoses, and the original calipers are included with the sale. Underside photos show no signs of notable fluid leakage, and corrosion on floor pans, tubs, and suspension pickups appears negligible where visible. The Porsche CoA above confirms the original color of Minerva Blue and factory options along with matching engine and transmission numbers.Records date from 2002 and include a thick binder of receipts for over $35k in upgrades and maintenance performed from 2008 to 2016. The sale also includes two shop binders and original ownerâ??s literature, along with a spare shifter and a box of extra parts.
