1989 BMW M3 Convertible

This 1989 BMW M3 is one of just 786 convertible models produced between 1988 and 1991. The car was built on July 19, 1988 and delivered new in France, where it is believed to have remained until being imported to the US in late 2014. Finished in Macao Blue Metallic over tan, the car is equipped with a dark blue soft top and powered by a non-catalyzed S14 inline-four. Work completed in November 2018 included cleaning the injectors and replacing the spark plugs, phenolic spacers, and filters. The model was based on the standard version of the E30 convertible and hand-assembled at BMWâ??s Motorsport facility in Garching, Germany. Bodywork shared with M3 coupes includes flared fenders, unique bumpers, and side skirts, though convertibles utilize a standard trunk lid without a spoiler. Various rock chips and other imperfections are noted in the finish, and there is a dent in the driverâ??s door under the base of the A-pillar. The dark blue, power-operated soft top was replaced in September 2008, and the car is also equipped with French-market yellow headlights featuring aim-control and a washing system. Factory 15â? basketweave wheels wear 205/60 Yokohama YK740 GTX tires showing 2016 date codes. M3 convertibles were equipped with different shocks and springs than their coupe counterparts in order to accommodate an increased curb weight, but shared the rest of the standard M3â??s suspension.
