Description
This 1992 BMW 850i is a 30k mile example powered by an unmodified 5.0L V12 and 6-speed manual transmission. Originally from Oregon, this example moved to Washington in the mid 1990s where it looks to have been driven sparingly. The pillarless design of the E31 has aged well over time. This example retains mostly original paint as verified by a thickness gauge, though a blended area is present in the on the right rear quarter. It also retains its original panels and fit is said to be very good. The factory chrome wheels look good, though the seller notes that they show some flaking.Originally released in 1990, the large coupe was electronically limited to 160mph, though was said to be capable of higher speed with the governor was removed. The wide, low nose shows well with no major chipping or cracking to the bumper or air dam.The seller notes a touched up area on the right rear quarter which measures 7 mils rather than the 3-4 mils on the rest of the car. The work appears to be high quality and it is not visible in photos. The interior looks much as it would have in 1992, and includes the original stereo and floor mats. The dash is free of cracks, and high wear areas like the wheel rim, shifter, and carpets look nice.Seating surfaces are in good condition with no visible cracking or seam separation. The seller notes that electronics work. The BMW-branded car phone is a cool period piece, though it is incompatible with modern digital wireless networks. The M70B50 V12 made 300hp when new, and is backed by a Getrag 560G manual gearbox. Service records for the car are not complete, but on inspection the seller noted the maintenance work performed by the previous owner. The Carfax is clean and shows the car moved from Oregon to Washington, and finally to California. Most of the miles were put on in the mid 1990s, with just 3k miles accumulated from 1998 to the present day. This is a clean and original E31 overall. V12 GT cars with manual transmissions will always have an enthusiast following and this looks like a good one.
