Description
This 1968 Porsche 911L was the subject of a recent refurbishment performed by Special Edition Inc. , better known as the home of Beck Speedsters, Spyders, and 904s. Work over the last 18 months included a bare-metal repaint in correct Polo Red, some minor rust repair with panels from Restoration Designs, and a reupholstered interior. The original engine was replaced in 1991 with a flat-six from a 1969 911T, and the 901 gearbox was rebuilt as part of the refresh. The selling dealer is now offering this car with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, records from new through 1991, receipts from the refurbishment, and a clean Texas title. The car was stripped to bare metal before a single-stage repaint was performed in the original Polo Red. The original trim items were re-chromed, and stainless trim has been polished. All of the rubber seals are new, and the original tinted glass was preserved. The original US-spec lighting has been removed in favor of European items front and rear. The original taillights, sugar scoop headlights, and turn signals were retained and will be included in the sale. The original brake calipers have been rebuilt, and new hard and soft brake lines were fitted. The interior was fitted new carpets, leatherette, and headliner, with two noted alterations from the original specification noted by the CoA. The first and most obvious is a switch to Pepita cloth inserts on the front seats, and the second is the addition of Coco mats. The dash top has been recovered in leatherette, though the dash fascia panel were not refurbished. The metal under the dash pad was not repainted in order to preserve the factory VIN written in wax crayon. The gauges were also found to be in good condition and were not restored. With the exception of those found on the the turn signal stalk, all of the white lettering and decals in the interior are original. The original flat-six was replaced in 1991 by German European Imports with the powerplant from a 1969 911T(#6197167). During Special Editionâ??s refresh, the engine received new fuel lines, heater boxes, and exhaust, as well as rebuilt 40mm triple Webers. The 901 gearbox was rebuilt, and new engine and transmission mounts were also fitted. All of the hardware has been zinc, cad, or black oxide plated, and original components were saved and restored wherever possible. These areas were cut out and replaced using repair panels from Restoration Design. A few older areas of rust repair were put back to their correct specification and appearance. The attached CoA is attached confirms the original colors and specifications. Filed under: long hood, longhood
