Description
This 1962 Porsche 356B Super 90 coupe has lived in California and Oregon since new and emerged in 1990 in its current street/track specification following a 3-year, bare-metal build. It was prepared to be both a vintage race and road rally car while still being street legal, and custom brake and suspension work was done by Emory Motorsports. The car was vintage raced periodically from the â??80s up until 2006, including 10 appearances at the Portland Historics with no DNFs. It currently runs a 912 engine with Weber carbs. The Certificate of Authenticity shows that the S90 engine, also included but disassembled, is original to the car and that the original paint color was Slate Grey over red interior. The car is great fun on street and road events. The owner that restored and raced the car had it for 21 years.  There is no rust on the car, and black Sikkens German exterior paint was selected. The paint is very shiny and attractive, but there is a good amount of marking across the nose from road and track use.  Back tape was used on the body behind each wheel to protect from chipping when on the track.A full red interior, including new door panels, headliner, carpets, floor mats and dash pad at that time. Stock seats were excellent and retained. All painted interior surfaces were redone in matching black, and the steering wheel was restored as was the column. An SCCA legal Autopower roll bar was bolted in to meet vintage requirements, as was a fire extinguisher and six point seat belts for the driver. Stewart Warner oil temp and pressure gauges added below the radio block-off plate. The car has been lowered and balanced with Koni adjustable shocks and a Skirmants bar on the rear. It has been de-cambered front and rear. There is pretty much no body roll. The original transmission (type 741/2A, date code Nov 1961, serial no. 51693, case part no. 741.301.101.10) remains in the car. It has an Optima 6 volt battery in a 100% solid battery tray. The drum brakes were retained with the following modifications made by Emory Motorsports who did much of the work on the car:Reproductions of the factory racing backing plates which have large scoops front and rear to maximize cooling.Steel braided brake linesDual chamber master cylinder, Super Blue racing brake fluidSpecial brake shoesDrums were ceramic coated with a heat reflecting coating in the center to keep the bearings cool and a heat defusing coating around the rest of the drum to expedite coolingThe original engine (#804380, type 616/7, case #52677) was removed, disassembled and boxed; it comes with the car, although a number of parts were used in the build-up of the new engine. The 912-based motor was built from new or as new components, by Motorsports International to the tune of $10k:Balanced crankshaft & rodsShasta 9.5 to 1 pistons and cylindersNorris 3/4 camWeber 40 carburetors with K & N filtersFront oil cooler with Aeroquip lines, quick disconnect fittings and 930 inline thermostatLightweight flywheelDistributor modified with Pertronics 6-voltThe car is a strong runner on the track or street, and the carbs could be re-jetted to allow for power below where this one comes on strong at about 2300 rpm.  The previous racer owner took very good care of the car and called it very reliable on the track, since he had NO DNFs. The car includes the original bumpers, the Skirmants bar, folding rear seat backs, and the engine parts shown (all off the car).
